Doctor Profile

Elizabeth Perone, VMD
Dr. Elizabeth Perone has been employed as an associate veterinarian at Hickory Veterinary Hospital since 2006. She always loved animals and had an interest in veterinary medicine, beginning while she grew up with multiple pets on Long Island, NY.
Dr. Perone went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and behavior from Barnard College at Columbia University, writing her senior thesis on a specific gene mutation in mice. In 2005, she received her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. During her fourth year at Penn, Dr. Perone was privileged to complete two four week externships – one at Oregon State University’s Large Animal Teaching Hospital where she specifically learned to love treating alpacas, and the second at Makai Small Animal Clinic in Oahu, Hawaii where she was fortunate enough to observe rescue and rehabilitation efforts on sea turtles. After graduating Penn, Dr. Perone completed an intensive rotating internship focused mainly on surgery, internal medicine, and emergency and critical care medicine at VCA Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in New York, NY. During that year, she was also able to shadow the dermatology service for an externship at Penn.
Most recently in 2009, Dr. Perone pursued advanced training from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute as well as the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and is pending certification in both fields. Her current veterinary interests include integrative pain management, emergency and critical care, increasing quality of life for the geriatric pet, and physical rehabilitation.
She currently lives with her fiancé Tim, also a veterinarian, and their pets: a rescue dog named Rigby and four rescued cats – Sadie, 50cent, Novia and Harrison.
