William J. Kay
DVM, DACVIM, DABVP

William J. Kay, DVM, DACVIM, DABVP is recognized as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine with certification in both Neurology and Internal Medicine. He received his undergraduate BS and DVM degrees at Michigan State University. He completed an internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine from AMC and a residency in Neurology at the New York University Medical Center. He continued at AMC in New York City as the Chairman of the Department of Medicine from 1970-1975. He served as Chief of Staff and Chief Executive Officer at AMC from 1975-1996, leading the institution to become a major veterinary center and veterinary teaching hospital for post-graduate clinical education and research.

Dr. Kay also served 2 years in the United States Army Veterinary Corps obtaining the rank of Captain. He was Adjunct Professor at Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Visiting Professor at the University of Maine Department of Animal and Veterinary Science and an Adjunct Professor of Neurology at the New York University Medical Center’s department of Neurology from 1969 -2000. He has served as a consultant for many companies and agencies including IDEXX Laboratories, Cardiopet, The Professional Examination Service, American Hoescht Inc, Hoechst-Roussel Agrivet Division and the Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine. He served with Dr. Nancy Brown as Series Co-Editor in Chief of the series Problems in Veterinary Medicine published by J.B. Lippincott from 1987-1992.

Dr. Kay has earned numerous awards and honors from The Animal Medical Center, Michigan State University, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Veterinary Medical Association of New York City, American Animal Hospital Association, University of Pennsylvania, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He was the founding chairman of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Forum and a founding member of the American Veterinary Neurology Association.
